Eating Out – Carbs
This section aims to give you quick links to where you can find the carbohydrate information for the most common places to eat out in the UK. If you find any of the links are out of date please email hello@type1diabetestips.com
Burger King
It is quite tricky to gather the carbohydrate information for Burger King. Steps you need to take are:
1) Visit http://www.burgerking.co.uk/menu
2) Select a part of the menu such as ‘Flame Grilled Burgers’
3) Select the burger type such as ‘Double Cheeseburger’
4) Click on ‘Info & Nutrition’
5) Click on ‘Add to my meal’
6) Repeat for other parts of the menu such as ‘Sides’
7) Finally click on ‘Show my meal’ and you should see a summary of the carbohydrates.
Chef & Brewer
As of August 2020 the Chef & Brewer website does not seem to be working at the moment. Normally carbohydrate information for Chef & Brewer is available in two pdfs which are near the bottom of the ‘Allergy and Nutritional Information’ page under the heading of ‘Nutritional Information’ accessed by clicking either ‘Main Menu’ or ‘Kids Menu’ button.
Costa
Carbohydrate information for Costa is available in 4 pdf files which are a short scroll down the ‘Nutrition & Wellbeing’ page listed under the heading of ‘Allergens advice’. Click on the relevant link such as ‘See our store dietary information’ and the pdf containing the carbohydrate information will open.
Domino’s
Carbohydrate information for Domino’s is available is available in various pdf’s which are a short scroll down the ‘Allergens and nutrition’ page

Harvester
Carbohydrate information for Harvester is clearly laid out on this Smart Chef website which is where you are directed to after visiting the ‘Nutrition’ page of the Harvester website and clicking on the ‘Allergen, Dietary and Nutritional Information button.
McDonalds
We are really impressed with McDonald’s who have made it really easy to find and calculate the Carbohydrate information for McDonald’s food via the McDonald’s nutrition calculator
You just click on the items of food and the calculator automatically does the carbohydrate calculation for you.
Nando’s
Carbohydrate information for Nando’s is available on the ‘Our Menu’ page. Scroll now the page and click on the ‘i’ button by each menu item and the carb content will be revealed along with other nutritional information.
Nando’s have also advised us that they have a Food Allergy & Nutritional Information File housed in all restaurants which will show carb information.
Odeon Cinema
Carbohydrate values for Odeon Cinemeas can be found on the ‘Nutritional Information’ page. Keep scrolling down the page until you find what you need. We are impressed by how simply and easily the carb information is displayed compared to some other places!
Pizza Express
Carbohydrate information for Pizza Express is available in a pdf file which will download to your device and you will need to open manually. Go to the ‘Do you have information on carbohydrate, salt or fat content?’ page and access the pdf file by clicking the hyperlink ‘here’ in the sentence ‘Yes, you can view the full nutritional information for all our dishes (including fat, salt and carbohydrate content) here.’
Pizza Hut
Carbohydrate information for Pizza Hut Food starts on page 22 of this pdf document which is a short scroll down the ‘Nutrition Information’ page which is accessed by clicking the ‘Read more…’ button under the heading of ‘Nutritional, dietary and allergen information’.
Pret
Pret don’t make it easy to quickly find carbohydrate information for a selection of products however it is possible to find the information for one product at a time.
A breakdown of each product’s carbohydrate information can be found on the individual product pages which you can see by going to the ‘Menu’ page and then clicking on the picture of the food. For example if you needed the carb information for a ‘Scottish Smoked Salmon’ sandwich from the menu page click on ‘Sandwiches’ and then ‘Scottish Smoked Salmon’ and then scroll down the page and carb details will be listed under ‘Nutritional Information’.
Starbucks Drinks
Carbohydrate information for Starbucks Drinks is a short scroll down the ‘Starbucks Nutrition Info’ page and is accessed by clicking the ‘Beverage Nutritional & Allergen Information’ hyperlink which opens up a pdf document.
Starbucks Food
Carbohydrate information for Starbucks Food is a short scroll down the ‘Starbucks Nutrition Info’ page and is accessed by clicking the ‘Food Nutritional & Allergen Information’ hyperlink which opens up a pdf document.
Subway
Carbohydrate values for Subway food can be found within the nutritional information for each item that is individually published on the Subway website. So for example for a standard Steak & Cheese 6″ sub you need to click on ‘All Sandwiches’ and then click on ‘Steak & Cheese’ and the carb information will appear on the right hand side.
There is also a ‘Nutritional Guide’ pdf which will download to your device.
TGI Fridays
In October 2018 Type 1 Diabetes Tips contacted the Procurement & Supply Chain Director at TGI Fridays asking for carb information and received the following response.
“TGI Fridays are in the process of introducing a new system for both nutritional and allergen data and this is the reason why we do not have the carb data on the TGI Fridays website at the moment.
TGI Fridays anticipate completing our new process mid January 2019 and will publish it as soon as it is available.
I am sorry we have been unable to provide this data recently and we are aware of the need to produce this as soon as possible.”
As of August 2020 we can still not see any carb information for the dine in menu. All we can see is some carb info for ‘Butcher’s Boxes’ online delivery service.
Wagamama
Carbohydrate values for Wagamama food can be found within the nutritional information for each dish that is individually published on the website at https://www.wagamama.com/our-menu
So for example for ‘Chicken Ramen’ click on ‘ramen’ and ‘chicken ramen’ and then click on ‘nutrition + allergy’ and carbs per serving and per 100g will be shown.
